Thaw

 Just over a week of snow - and then it's gone in an overnight thaw

{Saturday and Sunday walks on Spike Island while Megs was off
 at a friends birthday sleepover}

A lot more snow

At 7o'clock  we drop Ben at Scouts and head off to Richard's for a service planning session-

Not quite 2 hours later we leave Richards to discover snow- a lot more snow -
and it's still snowing heavily.

With a forcast of a thaw on Saturday there was nothing to do but to pick up Ben-
collect Megs and the sled from home,
and head off for some late night sledding!

A Little More Snow

There was more on snow Sunday night/Monday morning -

which led to an "intersting" drive to work -
and an odd day at school where I had 7 (seven!) children in my class!

There was quite a thaw over the day -
but there was still just enough snow left for another sledding session after school.

This years crop....

... of Snowmen/Snowwomen!

 This one was built by Ben in Grandads garden....

 ... while this one is a joint effort
{with Megs as the boss}
at Gma's!

 {She's called Patrice - Megs is very proud of the eyelashes!}

Previous years snowmen to be found here  here here  here here here and here

Snow Day

It started snowing as I drove to work -
it snowed all morning
{we took all the infants outside for a wild playtime}
and by lunchtime we had texted parents to collect their children.

Al had left work early - so we were both home by 2
-just in time to collect a VERY hyper Ben!

{Yes - there was a snowball fight on the way home}

As soon as Megs was at home we headed over to "the bongs"
for sledding and general {cold} fun in the snow.

After the funeral

Elizabeth came up to Widnes for Nana's funeral -

which gave Megs time to catch up with her

{and Ben a chance to show her his latest ipod game!}

If you go to see Les Miserables...

... be prepared for tears-

 {lots of tears}

We saw it with Jude and Richard at the Printworks IMAX in Manchester -

it was the worth the big screen experience -

a different {and more personal} emphasise to the stage production

well worth a viewing

Bouncing down the stairs

Tuesday morning Ben came bouncing downstairs with a huge smile on his face

Wednesday morning I was in the kitchen when I heard huge crash
 as Ben lost his footing and fell down the stairs.

He'd obviously really hurt himself,
 and there was no was I could drop him off for school while he was sobbing,
so I left him at Gma's for the morning.

Come lunchtime he was still complaining about his shoulder
and not really using his right arm at all
so it was back to Whiston for an afternoon at A&E.

 A long sit {wriggle in Ben's case}
and an x-ray later
the doctor decided that there was no break
and that it was just bruised.
So it will be back to school  for Ben tomorrow after a lucky escape.

Their Nana....

....died very peacefully in hospital on Sunday afternoon.

This photo is from Christmas Day 2011-

 Christmas 2012 she was very ill in hospital,
but able to see the children on Boxing Day,
admire Megan's new dress and to and share a little laugh about drop scones.

It's six and a half months since Elizabeth was given a poor prognosis
as we discovered she had Pulmonary Fibrosis.

A very difficult six and a half months with many crises-

But in the end she had her husband, two sons and two daughters in law with her

And after 50 years preaching the gospel - she is with her Saviour.

It's always better...

... when we're together

Taking a break from hospital visiting for a break for some time playing at Tatton Park

Peter Pan @ The Octagon

The general verdict was - not quite up to the usual Octagon Christmas Show standard

But Ben enjoyed it (especially the rather fabulous crocodile)

And Megs thought that the actor who doubled Nana (the dog) and Mr Smee and "rather nice hair"

And after all - we do love the Octagon

So I think we can declare this "nearly the end of the Christmas Holidays" trip a success!

The Rat's Tales at New Year

We had a lovely New Years Eve with Richard and his new fiance Fiona
The Rat's Tales was this years show at our usual New Year venue,

Unlike previous years it was a family show - so Megs and Ben came too

The show was so magical - telling wonderful fairy tales -

- with Troll Babies, and life sized dolls escaping from little houses -

Princesses in wooden dresses, and the most wonderful theatrical horse ever!

 Clever and dark - but all with {eventually}  very happy endings!
